Trafford MV 173-9
Alvanley 124-8ON a hot and humid Saturday afternoon, Trafford MV narrowly failed to record their first victory of the season as Alvanley shut up shop for the final few overs to force a draw at Macpherson Park.
Because of the weather, it was with some relief that Alvanley opted to field first on winning the toss, a decision that they were soon to regret as Steve Warner continued his robust start to the season, pummelling 44 runs in a 75-run opening partnership at almost five an over.
It was his opening partner, however, who was ultimately to prove the star of an MV batting display which saw them gain maximum points for the first time this season.
While Warner produced the fireworks, Andy Kershaw steadily built an innings, batting through the full 45 overs for an undefeated 65.
Against the nagging accuracy of MV's opening bowlers, Darren Park and Sully Chauhan, Alvanley were soon behind the required run rate.
The introduction of Mo Asad, who sustained his fine start to the season with 5-33, and the reliable Steve Haughton (2-39), saw wickets tumble until the rearguard action by the Alvanley tail in the final overs.
Despite this encouraging performance, MV lie second bottom in the Meller Braggins League First Division and must hope for victory from their visit to bottom of the table Cholmondeley this weekend.
